You Can Directly Save the Life of a Dog by Volunteering!
Please Consider Becoming a Foster Home
We depend on our foster families to care for the pets that we take
in. Every new foster family means another pet rescued from our over-burdened
public shelters. We depend on foster homes to provide information
about each dog so that we can place him in the proper home.
We ask that you evaluate the dog by noting whether or not it gets
along well with people, other dogs and cats and by observing any
special needs the dog may have - such as shyness, a fear of loud
noises, children, food aggression, etc.
What do you need to become a Foster Parent?
Nothing, other than the desire to help a hound. If you would like
to take a hound into your home on a temporary basis and have the
room, the love, the patience and the time, then you have what it
takes to foster. Finally, your personal pets should be current on
vaccines, including Bordatella. What do we provide?
4 the Hounds Basset Rescue, Inc. pays for any veterinary care that
the animal may need, including vaccinations, testing, medications,
and spay/neuter services. There is no cost to you other than the
cost of food.
How long will the foster pet be in your home?
That will depend on the age and circumstances of the hound that
you decide to take in. Young dogs and puppies are adopted much quicker
than old dogs and dogs with special needs. You could have a dog
for a few days to several months.
What do you get out of being a foster parent?
The immediate answer is the satisfaction of knowing you are directly
responsible for saving a dog's life. If you have been thinking about
adopting a hound, fostering is a way to find out if one will fit
into your lifestyle and actually is the right breed for you. If
it doesn't work out, we will be glad to place the hound in another
foster home, and we promise never to make you feel guilty!
How do you become a foster parent?
We are as careful about placing our hounds in foster homes as we
are placing them with adoptive families. We ask that you fill out
an "Adoption Form" noting on it that you wish to foster,
and mail it to our adoption coordinator for approval. We will then
notify you when a hound becomes available for fostering when you
are approved.
What if I decide I want to adopt my foster?
This is absolutely not a problem. We can always arrange an adoption!
